What is Chiropractic?Chiropractic comes from the Greek words meaning "done by hand". Modern Chiropractic care has come to mean a conservative
approach to health. Instead of drugs and surgery, a chiropractor uses joint manipulation, physiotherapy and nutrition. Chiropractic does recognize that in some instances, drugs and surgery may be necessary,
but it also understands the risks.
Doctors of Chiropractic will use specific manipulation (an "adjustment") to vertebra and other joints which have abnormal motion or function. Unless this abnormal motion
is corrected, chronic inflammation or even nerve irritation may result.
Many studies demonstrate that Chiropractic care is both safe and effective. The U.S. Department of Health and Human
Services recommends manipulation for relief of acute low back pain. Another recent study by the Rand Corporation, an independent research organization, demonstrated that manipulation is more safe than many
other common treatments.
